چکیده

Solid filtered or centrifuged potato processing wastes were obtained from three potato processors in Idaho. The waste samples were dried and ground to pass a 2-nun sieve and added to soils at rates of 0, 2.5, 10, and 25 g/kg. The 100-g samples of Portneuf silt loam soil containing the waste material was incubated at 26 °C and decomposition of the added wastes was determined by measuring CO, evolution in a flowing air stream passing over the soil in the incubation flask. Each increment of added organic waste material increased the amount of carbon evolved during the 12-week incubation. The waste materials contained 6.8, 20.4, or 65.5 g N/kg waste. However, these differences in N did not change the amount of CO, evolved at the 12-week incubation, although the evolution curves were shaped somewhat differently during the 12 weeks. Regression analyses of the cumulative carbon resulted in highly significant values being obtained for each potato processing waste material. Decomposition of the solid waste materials ranged from 24 to 92% depending upon the source and application rate. The rapid decomposition of the solid wastes verified field research indicating that potato wastes have not more than 1 yr residual fertilizer value. The organic waste is not likely to accumulate in the

Dynamics of diesel fuel degradation in contaminated soil using organic wastes

Bioremediation is an effective measure in dealing with such contamination, particularly those from petroleum hydrocarbon sources. The effect of soil amendments on diesel fuel degradation in soil was studied. Diesel fuel was introduced into the soil at the concentration of 5 % (w/w) and mixed with three different organic wastes tea leaf, soy cake, and potato skin, for a period of 3 months. Withi...

Sub-critical water as a green solvent for production of valuable materials from agricultural waste biomass: A review of recent work

Agricultural waste biomass generated from agricultural production and food processing industry are abundant, such as durian  peel, mango peel, corn straw, rice bran, corn shell, potato peel and many more. Due to low commercial value, these wastes are disposed in landfill, which if not managed properly may cause environmental problems. Currently, environmental laws and regulations pertaining to ...

Carbon Transformations in the Land Areas Receiving Organic Wastes in Relation to Nonpoint Source Pollution: A Conceptual Model I

A simple conceptual model based on current literature data was developed to describe organic carbon (C) loss from land areas receiving organic wastes. The model considers the decomposition of substrate C as represented by the evolution of COs. Decomposition of wastes was described in two or three phases, assuming first-order kinetics at each phase. The fraction decomposed at each phase was dete...

Performance Evaluation of Oily Waste Treatment Ways (TECHNICAL NOTE)

On the basis of key ways of oily waste treatment in Russia which has been described in the article and on the example of oil-contaminated soil (OCS) treatment there can be considered two most widespread technologies: bioremediation and thermal recovery. We developed the process flow sheet of the equipment (UT-2S) for industrial oily wastes treatment on the basis of high temperature air tight de...

Effective technological pectinase and cellulase by Saccharomyces cervisiae utilizing food wastes for citric acid production

The production of a notable and highly effective pectinase and cellulase, by the commercial baker’s yeast Saccharomyces cervisiae utilizing potato processing wastes, was achieved in 5-day solid state fermentation (SSF) cultures, at temperature 25 °C, pH range 4.0-5.0 and additive of ferric chloride. Pectinase and cellulase activities were stimulated by using potato wastes supplemented with urea...
